BEHEMOTH: New Album Nearing Completion
June 26, 2004Polish black metal outfit BEHEMOTH are putting the finishing touches on their much-anticipated new record, "Demigod", tentatively scheduled for an October release. Frontman Nergal checked in with the following update:
"Hi all out there! Guess some of you are hungry for news. First of all, the whole recording process takes more time than we have expected. It’s due to our incredibly high demands towards our possibilities. We try to bring out the best of the potential we have, in order to make the most challenging work to date. We've just completed laying down bass tracks and the right-channel guitar tracks. In the meantime, I also do some vocals here and there. It looks like it’s gonna be the most aggressive and intense vocal work I've ever done. Soon I will be joined by guitarist Seth, and we’ll start working on solos...”
Added bassist Orion: "The rhythm section sounds perfect. We've managed to obtain a bass sound just as we needed: powerful, formidable, low-set and aggressive simultaneously, with the band's characteristic 'drive.' Nergal stays in the studio still, in order to do the remaining tracks: guitars, solos and vocals. Today, I was witnessing recording of first vocal parts to 'Conquer All'. With no doubt, it's the best vocals I've ever heard by the band. Nergal is at his best, and so he does as much as possible. The effects are to be seen and heard immediately: ultra-aggression, power and uncompromising intensity. It's hard to name what I've heard...it was a blast!"
The recording sessions for "Demigod", which are taking place at Poland's Hendrix Studios, will last three more weeks. Nergal and drummer Inferno met with select members of the Polish media to talk about the new album, as well as to present some of the new songs. On July 15, BEHEMOTH will be hosting a listening session for the new CD at the Headbanger's Ballroom in Hamburg, Germany, to be followed by an exclusive live performance there on July 17. In between, the group are scheduled to perform at Kaltenbach Open Air in Austria. Mixing of "Demigod" will commence on July 26 at Sweden's Dug Out Studios with Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD). A late October release is expected via Olympic/Century Media (North and South America),Regain (Europe and Asia),Mystic (Poland),Raven (Israel) and Irond (Russia).
In other BEHEMOTH news, the group's first-ever official DVD, the double-disc "Fukk.Crush.Create", has had its release date postponed to late August. A European tour with KRISIUN, INCANTATION and RAGNAROK will follow this fall.
